Is presently working as the Head of Public Health Administration division of NHSRC, A technical support wing of Ministry of health and family welfare, Govt. of India. He was formerly Deputy Commissioner and head of Maternal Health Division in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India Dr Himanshu Bhushan has rich and diverse experience both as clinician and public health expert, wherein in the past he served remote areas of India as a clinician and then in the ministry of health, Government of India. Operationalizing Emergency Obstetric Care, Training of MBBS doctors in EmOC & Life Saving Anaesthetic Skills, Establishing Blood storage centre, Strengthening pre-service teaching and training of Nursing, Dedicated Maternal and Child Health Wings in the country, prioritizing resources to delivery points, setting up skills lab, Quality Assurance, assured referral transport are some of the key initiatives which have been spearheaded by him." He was also instrumental in many other policy decisions like, Permitting ANMs, Staff Nurses to prescribe and give drugs and injectable, Universal supplementation of calcium and Deworming during pregnancy, Screening and management for GDM, hypothyroidism, making care during pregnancy and child birth a free entitlement and many more are due to his initiative and efforts. He was instrumental in developing and implementation of Nursing Road Map for the country. He has publications in prestigious public health journals and has contributed both as National and International expert including WHO, Unicef, UNFPA, ICMR and other such prestigious organizations. In his present position also he is supporting Govt of India and states in implementation of all above initiatives and also newer program like PMSMA. Several policies for health system strengthening have been firmed up on his initiative and recommendations like Guideline for DH strengthening and making them knowledge Hubs, Centralized Grievance Redressal and Health Help line, National Ambulance services, etc. National Urban Health Mission is another area that he is leading. Several policy and guidelines like CD frame work, Guidebook for enhancing performances of Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) in Urban area, Tools for Vulnerability Mapping and Assessment, NUHM Orientation Module for Planners, Implementer and partners, UPHC Guidelines is now part of NUHM. He is a Member Secretary for 5 Task Forces on Comprehensive primary Health care: RMNCH A, Mental Health, Dental Health, Burns & Trauma and Architecture and infrastructure development of Health and Wellness Centre. The list of his works are long...but his dream is “Every Poor Women and Men accessing govt. health facilities should get a Rich Treatment by us”
